Summer Skin Tips

As we slow dance into the summer… picking berries in a field, tinkering around in the garden, floating in the lake, diving into the salty ocean, and enjoying a barbecue with your family and friends... your skin is exposed to the environment more than normal. The days get longer and the nights get shorter, the mundane routines of day-to-day life slowly melt away like the ice cream cone you enjoy in the heat of July. The skin being the largest organ of the body, it’s important to take extra care in the summertime. Here are some tips that you can follow to help your skin feel healthy and loved. Summertime glow commenced.

1. Deep Pore Cleansing

Cleansing your skin is extremely important in the summertime as it wipes away any impurities, makeup, and sunscreen (Yes, you need to wash it off!). Going the extra mile with a deep pore cleanser to hoist the excess sebum off your skin and to deeply penetrate your pores to reduce white heads, black heads, and to rid your skin of any dead cells and pollutants, all while leaving all of the natural good bacteria your skin needs. Your skin will be left feeling dreamy, clean, and soft.

2. H20

In the heat of the summer and being outside it’s hard to always remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. So, become best friends with your favorite water bottle and have it filled up for wherever you go, whether it’s the beach or your nightstand. Eat lots of fruit and veggies which help replenish hydration and minerals easily. Adding some salt to your water will help your body absorb the H20 and give your body natural electrolytes (shout out to Celtic sea salt - one of our favorites!). This will have your skin glowing from the inside out!

3. SPF

This is all about protection. Applying SPF to your skin will help protect it from damaging UV rays that can cause skin cancer, sunburns, and advanced aging. Opting for a sunscreen like zinc oxide which contains natural compounds that deflect the sunlight instead of the UV rays invading your skin surface. Sunscreen should be the last step in your skin care ritual. Important note: reapply! Bonus points if you have your favorite hat in your bag ready to go for long days, whether its a straw bucket hat or your Dad's old ball cap, they all do the trick to give you that extra protection.

4. Repair

After those long summer days it’s important to make sure you’re allowing your skin to repair. If you missed a reapply of sunscreen or ended up swimming too long and all in all just got a little too much sun. Applying an oil or serum that is rich in antioxidants is a key player in helping your skin rehabilitate from sun and environmental damage (free radicals). Antioxidants are anti-inflammatory and will help smooth your skin and aid in brightening dark spots. Incorporating an oil or serum with antioxidants is a must for healthy skin in the summer. You’ll definitely feel the glow. Our Rose Garden Renewal is a perfect oil that does just that. Rosehip Seed Oil is the star player in our formulation, it is full of antioxidants such as Vitamin A and C which will be sure to renew your skin after a long day. Plus, to top it all off, it smells like you’re dancing in a bed of rose petals.

5. Keep skin hydrated

To lock in moisture and to keep skin juicy it’s important to have a hydrating moisturizer but nothing too heavy. After long days outside and bearing the elements of the summer like sand and salt water, your skin might feel a little dry and in need of some hydration so your skin doesn't get dry and flaky. Our Timeless Hydration moisturizer is a heaven in itself. Containing Meadowfoam Seed Oil known for its powerful properties as  an emollient and rich in fatty acids and antioxidants. To top it all of it also has Glucosinolate derivatives which have been found to hinder UVB light exposure. Your skin will feel moisturized but not greasy.

Enjoy all of the little glimmers in the summer from sunrises to sunsets, and if there is a routine to keep this summer let it be your skincare. Romanticizing the ritual you make yours all while feeling beautiful and healthy.
